MacuCap®AMD is food for special medical purposes (balanced diet). Its composition is aimed at the increased needs of macular carotenoids, minerals and vitamins of patients with AMD.
The macula lutea (also yellow spot) of the eye contains the three carotenoids as they are combined in MacuCap®AMD: meso-zeaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin. These three carotenoids form the macular pigment.
The macular pigment acts as a blue light filter and antioxidant at the exact point of the retina that has the highest concentration of rods and cones (light receptors). It protects the eye from high-energy blue light, which occurs in natural sunlight as well as in lamps and LEDs. This filter property also contributes to visual functionality, particularly in contrast and glare vision. Macular carotenoids also neutralise free radicals that damage the cells of the eye.
Recommended Dosage: Take 3 capsules daily, preferably swallowed whole during a meal with liquid.
